What Stresses me out: MESS

Writing Prompt: What really stresses you out, and how to do take care of yourself when you’re in the midst of *waves at all that*.

What stresses me out: mess, clutter.  Unfortunately, I have the unnerving tendency to explode a room in 5 seconds.  This is how it usually goes: Day One spent organising, decluttering and generally tidying my space.  Feelings of achievement, bliss…vast expansiveness, potential etc.  Day Two – can’t find a paint I want to use.  I need a certain colour bead.  I can’t decide what to wear.  Boxes and drawers open.  BAM!  Day Three given up, living in a pile of same stuff I put away on Day One.

Everything always escapes out of drawers and boxes in my world.  And, if I’m honest, I create better when I can see everything in front of me.  I get inspired by that little piece of fabric I forgot I had, and found because I was rooting through said drawers.

It’s unfortunate that I usually say to myself – when I’ve tidied, THEN I’ll paint / write / draw / bead / create.  It seems I’m always waiting for a time when ‘I’ve got it together’.

Art creates mess by its nature.  Art doesn’t required a ‘right time’, not really.  The best of it comes as a result of tears, messiness, love, falling down, getting up, delving through the muddy places and running through wild places.  Wild places are messy by nature.  And I guess, if I was really looking after myself, I would have to just do the work anyway.
